Large square in Lisbon with some emblematic cafes and a statue of Dom Pedro IV in the center.

This wide square is one of the city's lungs, breathing in the uninterrupted hubbub of traffic. This square, once the scene of many a popular celebration (bullfights, markets or public executions), features a number of emblematic cafés. In the center, the statue is supposed to be that of Dom Pedro IV, emperor of Brazil whose red hair gave the place its name. In reality, it's that of Maximilian of Habsburg, Emperor of Mexico, who remained in Lisbon after his commissioner was assassinated.
