JARDIM DA ESTRELA
A beautiful English garden where it is nice to rest on the grass or have a coffee at the kiosk while watching people.
A beautiful English garden, designed in 1842, populated with magnificent hundred-year-old trees and beautiful flowerbeds. At the entrance near the basilica, you will find a trendy cafeteria near a nice pond where strange ducks rest (we are not exaggerating!). You can then continue your exploration by going deeper into the park. Don't be afraid to get lost, it is not huge. Don't miss the impressive cactus and prickly pear trees that line one side of the park. On the other side, the park ends with a pretty traditional kiosk and the exit will lead you to Rato. Adored by the locals, this garden is very popular with the locals, especially after work or on weekends, children who have a space there, bowls or card players, but also tourists, who now know that this place is worthwhile. Its lush vegetation makes it a particularly pleasant place to be in the summer, as it shelters you from the hot Lisbon sun and keeps you relatively cool. If you're lucky, you may also see a few parakeets in the wild. In the summer, many events take place such as open-air movies or concerts, yoga classes but also local craft markets! If you want some peace and quiet, we advise you to go there during the week because on Sundays it is usually full and the place on the grass is almost impossible to find.
