A Romanesque cathedral which imposes itself, in the middle of the buildings of the center of Lisbon. As beautiful from the inside as from the outside.
This fortified Romanesque cathedral, built in 1150 by D. Afonso Henriques on the site of an old mosque, is the oldest religious monument in Lisbon, first restored in 1344. The interior is worth a visit: a Romanesque vault cohabits with a Baroque choir and Gothic chapels. The cloister is also superb and houses an admirable wrought iron gate of Arabic inspiration. The Baroque sacristy contains the relics of Saint Vincent. Of note is a 13th century monstrance set with more than 4,000 precious stones.
