Tower of Belém, whose purpose was to defend the access to the port and which served as the residence of the captain of the port.

What about this magnificent symbol of Lisbon? What about the Manueline elegance of the construction of the Torre de São Vicente (from 1515 to 1521)? A blend of Renaissance and exoticism including memories of the Koutoubia of Marrakech! Know that in the past this delicate sentinel stood in the middle of the Tagus! The tower was intended to defend access to the harbour and was also used as a residence by the harbour master. The interior doesn't have much interest though. Remember to take a ticket coupled with the monastery that cuts off the line.

à 6 km du centre ville de Lisbonne, en longeant le front de mer, on arrive sur une grande place où se trouvent le monument des découvertes et un peu plus loin la fameuse tour de belem!
trop de monde quand on y est allé, nous l'avons juste observé de l'exterieur!

La tour est jolie, la vue sympa. Mais il y a beaucoup de monde et comme les gens ne respectent rien, je déconseille aux personnes âgées puisque se croiser dans les escaliers en colimaçon étroit est difficile.

A ne pas louper, dans les alentours du monastère et du monument des découvertes. Je vous conseille de faire les 3 sachant qu'ils sont proches les uns des autres. Pas mal de monde même en octobre, mais en tant que capital, on ne peut y échapper. Très bon moment et très beau monument !
