Behind a discreet, unmarked façade lies a little Art Deco marvel, designed belatedly by Portuguese architect Cassiano Branco in 1944. Beautiful, sober and original all at once, the hotel with its portholes evokes a pre-war ocean liner that has been enhanced by modern comforts. The rooms have original cork floors and the marble bathrooms are embellished with Molton Brown cosmetics. Buffet breakfast until noon. A bottle of old port awaits you on the coffee table as a traditional welcome.

The Hotel Britania is located in Lisbon's historic center, on a quiet street just off the cosmopolitan Avenida da Liberdade.
