VOORLINDEN
The largest private museum in the Netherlands, housing the illustrious art collections of industrialist Joop van Caldenborgh in The Hague
The Voorlinden Museum is the largest private museum in the Netherlands, housing the illustrious (modern) art collections of industrialist Joop van Caldenborgh. This industrialist has been a collector since his youth and this museum is the result of a true and genuine passion for art, which makes all the difference.
The museum was specially built for this purpose and the gardens were also laid out (on 40 hectares!). The building was designed to fit into the park as harmoniously as possible with sustainable materials and as much natural light as possible. On 4,000square meters, Voorlinden offers us in a luminous setting a dive into all forms of art and lets us admire great names (Ai Weiwei, Louise Bourgeois, Tracey Emin, Cindy Sherman, Andy Warhol, Piet Mondrian, Richard Serra...) in its permanent exhibition as well as temporary exhibitions that make the event. This unique initiative is a real haven of peace in a sublime setting. The library, which can be visited by appointment, is also worth a visit. Our favorite is Leandro Erlich's Swimming Pool, which alone makes the museum so popular on social networks. The museum's gardens were designed by the famous landscape architect Piet Oudolf, who also designed the gardens of the High Line and Battery Park in New York.
Don't miss the very nice restaurant located in the old house of the estate. It is a pity that the museum is not easily accessible by bus.
