MADURODAM
A park with 338 miniatures of Dutch monuments, 21 interactive animations and 4 indoor attractions
Madurodam boasts to be the smallest city in the Netherlands for more than fifty years! It is in fact a miniature city, or city within a city, which represents the typical monuments of the Netherlands on a scale of 1:25. This park presents 338 miniatures of Dutch monuments, 21 interactive animations and 4 attractions inside. The first half is very interesting since it presents emblematic places perfectly reconstituted. For example, you have to take the time to admire Rembrandt's Night Watch that you can observe by leaning over the Rijksmuseum. The second half is composed of more recent monuments and often less known to the general public. This museum opened in 1952 and is actually a mausoleum in memory of an incredible war hero, George Maduro. Maduro was a lieutenant who died in Dachau as a prisoner of war. Madurodam includes key elements of the Netherlands such as Anne Frank's house, the Domtoren in Utrecht, fields of flowers, windmills, canals as well as recently added elements such as Schiphol airport and the sublime Erasmus bridge in Rotterdam. Thematic exhibitions are also regularly organized. Note: Madurodam Park includes 65,0000 "Madurodammertjes", the inhabitants of the miniature city, and it is a real pleasure to be able to observe them in the park. At one time, every employee who retired or left his or her job in Madurodam was represented by a figurine in the park.
