This restaurant is a charitable institution founded by an Australian of Vietnamese origin, Jimmy Pham. Koto as in Know One Teach One. The restaurant provides vocational training for street children. By offering them the opportunity to acquire a trade, Koto prevents them from falling into the traps of drugs, prostitution or delinquency. In a pleasant decor and on several floors, Vietnamese and international cuisine at low prices. The establishment also organizes Vietnamese cooking classes (upon reservation).

Opened in 1996, benefiting from a central location, housed in a beautiful colonial era mansion, it is the great Vietnamese restaurant that has welcomed President Jacques Chirac (1997), Peruvian President Fujimori, or Japanese Prime Ministers Abe and Koizumi... Nguyên Sinh since 1942. The house proudly displays its age. It may not look like much, but it's an institution, and the restaurant is always very busy. The atmosphere is typical of the Old Quarter, with its scarcity of space and jumbled layout. The restaurant has retained its taste for French gastronomy, whose influence can be seen in the dishes: bouillabaisse, beef (your choice of Vietnamese or Australian) satô. Satô, Vietnamese for Chateaubriand! We regret, however, the rather cold welcome and casual service.

The name of this restaurant, opened in 2020, comes from the term "gia dinh", meaning love of family. Gia offers refined, conceptual cuisine using typical Vietnamese ingredients: black H'mong chicken, bamboo shoots, Duong Qui ginseng... The careful presentation of the dishes, combined with modern culinary techniques in the service of authentic traditional flavors, has earned Gia a star in the famous red guide. Italian restaurant inaugurated at the end of 2017. Immediate popularity. The classics of Peninsula cuisine in a large friendly villa, with a very pleasant setting. The atmosphere will suit families (covered terrace and large tables) as well as romantic dinners. Pizzas cooked over a wood fire, pasta, but also dishes of the day that are constantly renewed and that highlight ingredients that are always fresh and of high quality. The wine list is nice, but beware of the addition.

Located in a small street near Thien Quang Lake, this restaurant offers, as its name suggests, chà ca lang, a Hanoi specialty: fish marinated in turmeric and cooked in a pan on the table, accompanied by dill and spring onion, served with rice vermicelli, peanuts, mint leaves and other condiments. This restaurant is nestled in an ancient house in Ngu Xa village. A hanging bicycle serves as a sign. Inside, an intimate setting with whitewashed brick walls that host black and white photos as well as many objects from a time - the 1980s - when the country was facing scarcity and rationing. Tickets are used to place orders. Praise for frugality and ideal in reaction to the materialistic excesses of the present time? A good Vietnamese cuisine accompanies the reflection. Recommended.

A very popular establishment specializing in bun bo hue, a 5-flavor soup from Vietnam's central Hue region. Chunks of beef, pork, thick rice noodles and bean sprouts are added to the broth and garnished with condiments. It's simply delicious and filling, as the portions are very generous. Several recipes are available. You can sit outside on the little stools or more comfortably in the dining room. The owner is a real character! Friendly service and English menu.

Customers flock here to sample the local specialities: snails and clams steamed with herbs, to be enjoyed on a little stool on the sidewalk. You can accompany your meal with a cold beer. You'll see two buckets: one with local herbs to wash your hands and get rid of the smell, and another to rinse them. An original experience.

Everything is done to give a feeling of luxury (especially prices). At lunchtime, the place is popular with businessmen. Excellent little Japanese restaurant. And yet, the management and the cooks are Vietnamese....Seafood of high quality, fresh and tasty. To be recommended to all fish lovers. A wide choice of sushi and sashimi, prepared according to tradition, before your eyes, if you choose one of the places at the counter. The establishment is very popular and the strong presence of Japanese customers is a clear sign. Finally, the restaurant offers particularly moderate prices given the quality of the products on offer.

Authentic and delicious Indian cuisine. Opened in July 2011, the restaurant is popular with customers, although the setting, with its kitschy airport lobby feel, lacks charm and personality. It offers a wide variety of specialities from northern and southern India. The traditional tandoor produces delicious naan. Indian travellers passing through Hanoi find themselves in great numbers in the establishment and are full of praise for the cuisine. Pretty good sign.... Attentive and discreet service that can even be French-speaking.
