Phan Rang-Thap Chàm (ancient Panduranga), capital of Ninh Thuân province, has a population of almost 170,000. This ancient Cham principality, located in the heart of Vietnam, is home to the descendants of the ancient Hindu kingdom of Champa. A few 12th-century remains bear witness to this past. The area around Phan Rang boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, as well as several sites that bear witness to the vanished kingdoms of Champa. But the site is not very touristy, due to its proximity to the much busier seaside resorts of Nha Trang and Mui Né.
