Khanh Hoa province stretches along the coast from Cam Ranh Bay to the Hon Chom peninsula. Nha Trang, a pleasant seaside resort, has grown rapidly thanks to the development of tourism. It is prized for its beaches, diving sites and offshore islands. It also exports in sectors such as fishing and fish farming. Bordered by a magnificent 14 km-long beach, Nha Trang was once home to the residence of the French Governor General, a luxurious colonial villa known as the Maison Blanche. The city has been endowed with a superb croisette along which runs the avenue Trân Phu (the avenue of hotels), which extends as far as the little port. The town is also famous for the splendidly restored Cham temple of Po Nagar. The Russians had left the Cam Ranh base... before concluding the sale of 6 submarines to Vietnam, the fourth of which, christened Khanh Hoa, was launched in Cam Ranh harbour in July 2015. So the Russians are back in Cam Ranh, and Nha Trang, like Phan Thiêt, has a large Russian presence (mainly tourists attracted by the sun and beaches). In fact, it's not uncommon to come across costumed sailors enjoying their stopover in the streets of the town. Many restaurants feature Cyrillic lettering on their menus. There's also a sizeable French community, with many retirees. Last but not least, the Chinese and Korean tourist clientele continues to grow, with fears among Vietnamese operators that this influx will create an imbalance that undermines the development of other markets.
