In the foothills of the Sierra Morena, it preserves the artistic traces of its past. When Alfonso IX of Leon reconquered it in 1230, he gave it to the Order of the Temple, in charge of its defense. In 1475, Vasco Nuñez de Balboa was born here and discovered the Pacific Ocean in 1523. The city has an Andalusian style with its white houses. Its churches, with baroque towers (including the one of San Bartolomé, the highest), give it an undeniable character. If you stay here at the beginning of May, don't miss the Salón del Jamón Ibérico (Iberian Ham Fair), as the city is famous for its excellent ham, which has been awarded the Dehesa de Extremadura label.
