Travel Guide Ammoudara

Ammoudara is located only 7 km west of the capital of Crete, and offers an interesting alternative, although the culture is not there. The main attraction of this village is its (very busy) sandy beach: five blue flags, several kilometers of fine golden sand... To enjoy it, you can rent a beach umbrella from the many hotel-clubs that border it. However, a public area with free parking is available at the Georgia hotel, on Vagia street. Along the beach, on the main road, you can find everything: pharmacies, taverns, bars, health centers, car rental companies, stores, mini-markets... The five towers that can be seen at the end of the beach towards Agia Pelagia are a non-polluting power station. The power plant is a serious blot on the landscape, but the Cretans swim right in front of it with their children without any fear. It is odorless and silent.
