A national wildlife refuge, Isla Bolaños, a small island of 25 hectares accessible from Puerto Soley at the bottom of the bay of Salinas, is a birdwatching paradise. Among the most representative species are brown pelicans and frigate birds. To dock, you need permission from the Santa Rosa authorities. It is one of the driest areas in the country with less than 1,500 mm of rainfall annually. Bahía Salinas is mainly frequented by windsurfing enthusiasts who know the strong winds of the bay, but its distance from the more developed tourist centers gives it a special charm to discover.
