The Argyle mine is located 40 km east of the Great Northern Highway and around 200 km south of Kununurra. The Argyle mine chimney alone produced 25 million carats of diamonds a year. The Argyle Diamond Mine was the world's largest diamond mine until its closure in 2020. Argyle is also famous for its huge lake, which can supply the population of Perth with water for ten years! It is home to no fewer than 25,000 freshwater crocodiles and a population of rock wallabies.
