Founded in 1830 because there wasn't enough land available around Perth, Augusta developed in the 1880s thanks to the forestry industry. The Busselton Highway stops in Augusta, with Cape Leeuwin, Western Australia's southernmost point, just around the corner. A small town with a population of just over 1,200, Augusta is adjacent to Flinders Bay, whose magnificent beaches are ideal for watching the humpback whales migrate offshore from May to October. You don't have to stop here before exploring the south coast, but we do recommend it. 1h30 from Pemberton by road through the forests.
