This national park covers an area of 200,000 ha. Most of the landscape is made up of hills, winding tree-lined streams and spectacular escarpments. Some areas are home to numerous palm trees (rare in the Pilbara) and natural pools that form veritable oases. The first settlers came to the area in 1865. The Visitor Centre is housed in the former Millstream Homestead built in 1920, which was also a tavern from 1975 to 1986. Hiking trails abound, and overnight stays are possible at Crossing Pool, Miliyanha, Snake Creek, Stargazers and Deep Reach Pool.
