25 km north of Hobart, Richmond is a charming little town located in a wine region (the Coal River Valley). Richmond is one of the oldest villages in Tasmania and is easily accessible from Hobart, which explains the large number of weekend visitors. Several buildings testify to its history. Rich in architecture, Richmond has more than 50 historic buildings, most of which date from the 1820s. Visit the Old Gaol (1825), beautiful art galleries, tea rooms and the famous bridge built by convicts in 1823, the oldest bridge in Australia. Legend has it that it is haunted!
