Just 25 minutes from Hobart, heading north on the central Hobart-Launceston road, Brighton is now considered a suburb of Hobart. In 1821, Governor Macquarie decided that the military post should be called Brighton, in honor of the preferred place of residence of King George IV's wife (Queen Caroline). The small town attracts many visitors, not least thanks to the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary: an endemic animal sanctuary not to be missed! Finally, as you stroll through the streets, you'll be able to admire some impressive Georgian buildings: they give the region a unique character.
