Located 110 km north of Townsville, Ingham is known as Queensland's "Little Italy". Indeed, Italians have been growing sugar cane here for over 100 years! Arriving in the 1920s, Italian settlers launched the sugar cane industry, and today, after several generations, they still own one of Australia's largest sugar factories. Today, more than half of Ingham's population is of Italian origin, and the Australian-Italian Festival, held in August, attracts thousands of visitors, who enjoy the wine, food, music and overall Italian culture.
