Terrigal is a small seaside town popular with Sydneysiders who flock there on weekends. It was named after John Gray, the first European to settle in the area in 1826, who named his property Tarrygal, after an Aboriginal name meaning "place of little birds".Its large beach lined with many cafes and restaurants is very pleasant. A short distance southeast of it, The Skillion is a viewpoint from a promontory overlooking the town. Further south are the beaches of Avoca Beach, which is a favorite of the owners of the many second homes located there.
