"Aux Oursons" is the biggest brasserie in Prague. As soon as you enter, you are confronted with a ballet of busy waiters and waitresses, their hands overflowing with mugs, like in the best clichés! The food is typical, well prepared and hearty, accompanied by a beer obviously brewed in-house. Or is it the other way around? Not too expensive and always a good atmosphere. Ideal to taste typical dishes like goulash, pig's knees or pivny syr, literally "beer cheese". Copious as you wish!

We come here to drink a beer and taste some of the best Czech dishes in Prague. Wild boar, roast goose or duck, pig's knees or roast suckling pig or smoked sausage. Pints of beer, cabbage and knedliky obviously accompany the whole thing, an excellent address frequented by the local businessmen who came to eat well... and drink well. Very reasonable prices, even if the place, a chain present all over the country, lacks a little charm and the service is not the best in town

Czech specialities and recipes inspired by the Alpine region are rather successful, in both cases fresh and light products. We also come here for breakfast, very complete and rather cheap in terms of quantity and quality of products: good pastries and fresh fruit juices. A good idea if you have decided to save it at your hotel. Tired of Italian cuisine that is too expensive and pizzas that are too fat? This is an excellent family address. For antipasti, browse the buffet, composed every morning with fresh products and according to the chef's inspiration: stuffed peppers, candied tomatoes, marinated olives... We will detail everything with passion before offering you a table. On the flat side, the boss is a champion in pasta recipes and makes very good risottos. Fans will be able to enjoy an excellent lambrusco or a selection of wines from Tuscany and Sicily.

The "two cats" (that's his name) are painted on the façade of this arcaded building located on a charming square. Here you are in a typical hospoda in the centre of the town with a tradition that dates back to the 17th century. As soon as you enter, you know you're going to drink Plzeň, the drawings that symbolize this brand are on all the walls among the pictures of the old Prague. In the evening, the atmosphere is often provided by a musician. Crowd, hubbub and smoke. We like the warm atmosphere of the place, reminiscent of old inns from another time.

Very nice brasserie, close to the castle to be an alternative to the nearby tourist restaurants, but far enough to keep a local clientele. Not only are the dishes well prepared and original, but also well presented, which is rare in pivnice. All Czech specialties are on the menu. You will choose from garlic soup, cabbage or grilled goose liver. The big stomachs will then delight with roasted duck, pork, especially tender pork or halušky, Slovak specialities that resemble the gnocchis. You can also order a whole piglets three days in advance. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Located on the edge of the Vlatva, just steps from Charles Bridge, the Phenix offers a beautiful view in a modern setting with a varied design. On two floors and with several different rooms, the furnishings can satisfy all moods. The kitchen is international, fine, and value for money. We can arrange for you at any time, for copious breakfasts, light lunches or classic dinners.

The Epicure restaurant refers to the Greek philosopher's maxim "Happiness or pleasure is the greatest good in life". Chef Paul Zaleski, inspired by the culinary trend, plays with fresh produce from the daily market, creating a seductive combination with a regular menu complemented by a daily selection of specialty dishes. So it's hard to get your head around it! Also a wide selection of Czech and international wines. The restaurant is fully air-conditioned, but has a lovely outdoor terrace.

This small restaurant has just opened its doors and offers quality cuisine at a relatively low price right next to the castle. You will particularly appreciate the view of the city and the intimate setting, ideal for a couple's lunch or dinner. In summer, the large windows are open and in winter, the natural light is exquisite. The cuisine is local and international and the service is fast and friendly. Chef Jakub prepares each dish with fresh ingredients and the wine list goes very well with the dishes on offer

Here you can enjoy the very best of Italian cuisine: homemade pastas and risottos in mouth-watering recipes. Fresh products, very well prepared! The cellar is stocked with renowned bottles, and the chef prepares a different specialty every day using seasonal produce. One of the best Italian addresses in the city center.

Located at the top of the Žižkov TV tower, Oblaca Restaurant offers enchanting views of Prague's city. Raised at a height of 66 m, the setting is very contemporary and the clientele resolutely chic and upscale. On the plate, a beautiful European gastronomic cuisine, a little expensive of course. The recipes are oriented more towards Italy but tinged with fusion by skilful blends of spices. Probably the price to pay for these incredible views! The tower is easily accessible and has its own parking lot if you come with your car.

To eat well, cheaply, locally, with the local "workers". This fast food restaurant is located just next to the Havelská market, a stone's throw from Wenceslas Square. Very well renovated, it is nothing like an ordinary fast food restaurant, except its low prices. Inside, everything looks like a country house. High tables for standing dinners, small tables for a quiet meal. It is the Mecca of hungry shopkeepers, but students, retirees and passers-by come to eat there. At lunchtime we literally rush for prices that defy all competition.

A recent address that opened its doors in the very active district around Dlouhá Street in Prague, popular with night owls and late nightlife, this tiny Vietnamese cave offers authentic oriental specialities in a beautiful setting made of light woodwork and designer furniture. On the menu are classic Vietnamese sandwiches and soups as well as more hearty dishes such as the delicious Bo-bun. Fresh products and prepared to order. Most certainly one of the best Vietnamese addresses in Prague.

Located just next to the Finestra, La Bottega is an Italian café/bistro with tasty salads, pasta, fresh meat and fish, as well as high-flying coffee and desserts. A bistronomic cuisine, based on fresh and carefully selected products, to be served with glasses of wine to choose from a wide range of transalpine labels. Something to make a feast or eat very light, depending on your taste. The atmosphere is relaxed and modern, and the staff is very friendly and the quality is high!

A good address in the center of town, behind the Rudolfinum, for tasting authentic Czech cuisine. The decor is that of a typical hospoda , and many locals gather here every day over a beer to talk about anything and everything. Don't miss the home-made svíčková , pork knuckle or roast duck, which are particularly good. The "all-you-can-eat" menu is rather inexpensive, but beware: the bill can rise quite quickly when you start dabbling in the meat and game specialties.

An address that offers local specialities at very attractive prices, despite its location in a tourist area. The portions are huge, the duck roasted with cabbage and knedlíky for example, the beer very cold. Also specialities such as marinated camembert or Prague sausage, which are continuously cut by the cooks. The service is ultra-fast and professional. Terrace quite pleasant in summer and rather quiet, although a few steps from the continuous tourist flow between the Old City and Wenceslas Square.

There is one exception to the touristy restaurants of the Castle district: a hidden tavern just a stone's throw from the Castle (no sign on the door - you can spot the entrance by the red-and-white coat of arms adorned with a black ox's head). We come here to drink the beer that flows freely and enjoy some of Prague's best "Czech tapas": tlacenka (the equivalent of our snout with vinaigrette), marinated sausage, pivni syr (a cheese that resembles maroilles) and klobasa are excellent and can be enjoyed for lunch, dinner or an aperitif.

This name has been around the world. This famous rib steak with a butter sauce, whose recipe is kept secret. Here, success is guaranteed. The entrecôte de Paris is delicious, the small summer garden is intimate and the decoration is a chic bistro. Good daily specials are also available: fish, pasta or large, lighter salads for smaller appetites. Also a good choice of beers and wines. And as if that wasn't enough, we are here in the small square of Malta, one of the most pleasant squares in Mala Strana.

The terrace is located on the roof of the U Prince Hotel. Here you can eat comfortably and at the same time enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Prague's historic centre with the Castle overlooking the horizon. It is also ranked among the top 15 most spectacular rooftops in the world! The terrace is open all year round; in winter it is of course covered. Unfortunately, the cuisine remains quite unspecified for the prices charged

An address that summons all the credos of the Czech tavern: large wooden tables, antiques and old posters, a bar that delivers pints of beer, continuously brewed on the spot, without asking you for your opinion, it seems so normal! The tavern has more than 300 seats, so we're used to going fast. You will find on the menu all the Czech specialities that go with beer: marinated sausages, camembert in vinegar, breaded cheese... And for the meal: duck and potato bread! Anyway, we come out with a lot of calories.

Don't expect great food, but the price-quality ratio is interesting for the neighbourhood. Tourists or locals go there for their famous pizza over a wood fire. You can dine outdoors, in the dining room or in the basement in a more cosy atmosphere. For a quick break, without frills, before resuming Mala Strana's visit. There are also a few Italian dishes and salads on the menu: not really the best address of this type in town, but it remains correct and above all cheap.

Beautiful French brewery, by the group that runs Les Moules. We find the best recipes from the French terroir: sometimes a touch of Czech cuisine, such as Burgundian deer or duck confit with orange. The setting is very nice and the decoration is well thought out, especially since its renovation in early 2019. Prices are sweet and quality is in the spotlight. A small grocery store also offers French specialities. In the basement, the restaurant le Winstub is a pleasant place where the culinary art and wines of the hexagon are once again put forward.

Located a few steps from the Place de la Vieille Ville, it is a meat and seafood restaurant with an intimate atmosphere. Here, in this Argentinean restaurant, the decoration is low profile, on a black and white background. While waiting for the main courses to arrive, we rush to the small empanadas for starters. In the kitchen, we are busy around the stove and soon, in front of you, the famous plancha arrives, on which sizzles a delicious rib of beef that seems to come directly from the Pampa. Good portions of tasty meat cooked to perfection!

A real gourmet restaurant, more precisely an Italian gourmet restaurant. The decor is pleasant, spacious with a high ceiling, and the staff, ready to advise you on the best combinations of dishes and wines, is taking care of itself. The products from Italy are of the highest quality and the cooks know how to cook risotto, bluefin tuna or flavoured sauces and seafood. The list of wines leaves you dreaming... For those who have been seduced, the restaurant has a shop on the opposite sidewalk.

To change small Czech sandwiches and find more Hispanic or Latin recipes, come through the door of this Latin American bar that makes excellent cheap tapas, attracting a young and friendly student population to this rather upscale area of the old city. You think you've found the right place to start the evening, but it often lasts so long that the atmosphere invites you to get to know each other and chat until the end of the night. Burritos, tacos and fajitas are then released on the kitchen chain!

A simple address for sandwiches, potato pancakes, pastries... A modern self-service restaurant with traditional recipes and good products. What more could you ask for? The pastry department is also highly recommended for a gourmet break during the day. Apetit has been a great success and now boasts a number of addresses in the city: in the tourist areas, in the Old Town at Dlouha, 23; in the New Town at Vodičkova, 30; in Vinohrady at Vinohradska, 30.

This beergarden in the middle of Zižkov Park may not be easy to find, but it's certainly superb. It's Prague's largest beergarden (filled to capacity, it holds 500 people), where you can drink good beer and eat good sausages. People come here in the afternoon, after work or in the evening to relax with friends, play a few games of table soccer or watch the sports matches on the giant screen. Very popular.

The famous Triton Restaurant first opened its doors in 1912. Fortunately, this beautiful restaurant has managed to preserve its unique style for over a century. It is a small restaurant located in the basement of the Adria Hotel in the heart of Wenceslas Square. Triton looks like a stalactite cellar between statues from Greek mythology that tell the story of Eurydice and her husband Orpheus. The restaurant menu offers a choice of Czech and international cuisine. Unfortunately, apart from the setting, the rest is very expensive.

A very pleasant establishment, on two floors, reminiscent of the atmosphere of the French troquets. You can sit there for hours, sipping coffee after coffee and watching the day go by. The menu is diverse and includes crepes, pasta, duck confit, and burritos. A few Italian notes with carpaccios and pastas recipes make for a lighter lunch. On weekends, think about brunch: French toast, various omelets and pancakes that are unbeatable value for money. All this in a rather offbeat and warm decor.

Kabul, the only Afghan restaurant in the Czech Republic since it opened in 1998, guarantees you an authentic change of scenery with its delicious Central Asian specialities. Taste the tasty skewers, kebab and lamb chops and the flavoured rice dishes of an Afghanistan whose cuisine and customs are still deeply unknown in our Western culture. Also vegetarian dishes and mezze trays for three to six people featuring the best of Afghan cuisine. A rich stage!

Of course the atmosphere is extraordinarily touristy, but if you can find a place in the garden at the back, at the foot of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Church, you won't regret it. Czech dishes are rustic to perfection, cooked the old-fashioned way and served in gargantuan portions. Fat is found in most recipes and cholesterol levels explode, but it's really good and the beer brewed on the premises is served cold. If you're on a diet, console yourself with the pub in the basement, where the atmosphere is always very lively!

Fast and simple, it is the ideal place to eat on the go a typical Czech dish, leaning against the iron counters. In this very lively neighborhood, there are always people and the atmosphere is joyfully popular. Traditionally, it was a workers' restaurant, more precisely a self-service restaurant, whose policy of low prices and generous portions have attracted an ever-increasing number of tourists. It's always good, cheap, and friendly. Certainly not great gastronomy, but prices that defy all competition!

The menu of sushi and sashimi and wine is impressive. Eels, clams, dry sea bream and sea bream accompany the best wines of Moravia, Slovakia and France. Intimate setting, simple decor. Call them for delivery in Prague.

Self-service cafeteria for vegetarians. Salads, soups and hot dishes. We pay by weight. It is often good, not expensive (there is the tail at noon) and it allows you to pause after meals a little "heavy" devoted to local cuisine. Other address in the old town on Melantrichova, 15.

The entrance, very discreet, precedes a large vaulted cellar. The restaurant is one of the best addresses in the area. Simple, mid-Czech, semi-international dishes are well prepared. For example, we taste wings, through pigs, with smoked languages, with mustard pork. The interior recalls a jazz bar of the 1950 s with time posters. Only black point: the service can leave to be desired and the waiting time is a little long. A local address where you eat very well.

The locals are familiar with this family restaurant, where you can enjoy antipasti, salads, pizzas, pasta and Milanese cutlets… the classic cards even spoil the Italian hearts. The dishes are rich and regularly decorated with an original touch by the candlelight. Air conditioning, summer terrace and tram just opposite help make Cerreto a pleasant address; it must be said that prices are friendly. In a word, it's worth escaping from the center and getting there.

If this little hospoda, in the corner of a small square in the residential quarter of Dejvice, looks like so many others, food is worth a detour. The pig knee controls the weight, the hermelin (kind of camembert pie to oil and piments) is, according to local residents, the best in Prague and Hungarian sausages have nothing to envy from the sausages in Budapest. Obviously, there is no menu in English, so order your eyes closed.

A very good hospoda in front of the modern art museum of Letná. Breakfast options are unbeatable for the price and quality of typical dishes. Everything is home in the great kitchen, it feels like it. Dishes, usually fat, are lighter and very tasty here. Beware, the menu in English does not offer the dishes of the day.

Ex-high place of local nightlife, adored by young Czechs, Fraktal now has a new life: that of a trendy restaurant! Upstairs, the little beergarden; in the basement, four different rooms, a crazy decor with, at the Barycentre, the open kitchen. On the menu: hamburgers, Nilson-style ribs, quesadillas and soups. All simmered with very fresh ingredients, purchased daily at the Prague market. The wide choice of cocktails will keep you there longer than expected. Highly recommended for an evening with friends.

A new self-service, just steps from the large shopping centre of Smíchov. The dishes offered are in sight, expected (meat, potato, cabbage…). It's really cheap and you don't feel lonely at noon, when you eat it (standing) with dozens of local employees.

Located on the edge of the most prosperous shopping and leisure centre in Prague. The two floors allow groups of friends or families with children to enjoy the children's corner. Unique selection of organic and fresh fruits and vegetables, different kinds of organic coffees and desserts, milk-shake, excellent organic wines, sandwiches and salads. Non-smoking area, children corner and free internet access (Wi-fi).

A medieval restaurant, a little overrated, but entertaining. The waiters are in traditional clothes, the women in corset, the men in garter. Wine and beer flow freely, accompanied by good, hearty dishes. The room in the basement is even more typical. Medieval menu on Friday evening with fire-eaters, Roma dancers, medieval buffet, wine and beer at will (reservation required). We come here as much for the atmosphere as for food, more Moravian than medieval. In short, a good place to spend an entertaining evening.

Located on the ground floor of the Šternberk Palace National Gallery, this cafe offers a great opportunity to take a break in the middle of the city's most tourist area to take a zákusek (dessert) or to take advantage of the light lunch menu, which is the most affordable in the area.

Admittedly, Slovak cuisine is not very "exotic" for the Czechs. However, it can be described as even more rustic. So to taste some of the other specialities of the other half of the former Czechoslovakia, come and take a tour and discover the delicious halušký and the beers from there.

A small, simple and unpretentious restaurant frequented by all Zižkov; blue cols, humanitarian, artists and dynamic frames rush every lunchtime to taste the specialities of the day at very small prices (around 75 Kč). In the evening, we eat more refined food. Excellent value for money and a hétéroclite atmosphere. Beergarden at the back open in summer.

A good address for typical dishes from Korea (especially) and Japan (a little) at very reasonable prices (it is rare enough to be reported). Look at how the "real" Koreans do with their rich pibimbap (beef or fish, rice, soybeans, raw egg, vegetables to mix), and do the same. Sushi is very correct.

It's a good idea to show up at the "Moulin", one of the most popular and best-rated tables in the capital. We are here just a stone's throw from the Charles Bridge, in Malá Strana, the view from the terrace is superb. Chef Vladimír Vaníček prepares and revives Czech and international cuisine of the highest quality. The Czech tasting menu offers Prague ham, duck leg confit and, last but not least, an appetizing chocolate cabbage. The products are seasonal and local. The prices remain very reasonable for the quality of the place.
