The main village and port of the island of Tilos, Livadia lies along a wide, protected bay that stretches for miles along the beach to the tiny marina of Aghios Stefanos. The village is not particularly interesting architecturally: it only developed in the second half of the 20th century, when the inhabitants of Mikro Horio moved from the historic inland village to the port. With the exception of the harbor master's office and the police station, which feature Fascist architecture and bear witness to the Italian occupation, you'll find a number of more recent houses. The few quiet streets are organized around a pleasant central square, which comes alive in the evening with a few cafés and tavernas and a couple of mini-markets. The coarse pebble beach that borders the entire bay is lined with small restaurants and hotels open in season. Numerous footpaths lead to secluded beaches in the surrounding area.
