This pedestrian street is the starting point for all your adventures in the Old Town. It sums up Dubrovnik for 300 m!

The main artery of the city, also called Placa, starts from the Pile Gate and stretches almost 300 m long to the Clock Tower and the Ploče Gate. The Stradun was built in the 12th century on the small stream and muddy ground that separated the two former settlements, the Slavic Dubrava and the Roman Ragusa. The street was paved in 1468 and rebuilt after the great earthquake of 1667. The pavement polished by the ages is lined with houses (17th century), which respect the same urban plan, giving a great unity in this historical axis.

C'est l'artère principale de la vieille ville partant de la porte Pile à presque le petit port en fond, la rue grouille, de beaux bâtiments et façades ornent son pourtour, bien choisir son moment pour y vadrouiller, sinon mélanger à la foule!!!

Tres bel ensemble medieval! Attention a ne pas visiter lorsqu'un des nombreux bateaux croisiere deverse ses milliers de visiteurs (un ou plusieurs bateaux). Peut se visiter le soir et la journee.

Une merveille ! Cependant, il faut descendre ( et remonter...) de nombreuses marches pour y arriver. Les pavés de la place sont glissants tellement ils sont polis. Mais cela ne devrait décourager personne, car c'est vraiment splendide. Pas de voiture donc air respirable ! Même si votre budget est limité et que vous ne pouvez vous offrir aucune visite "à l'intérieur", cela vaut la peine. Attention cependant, choisissez une autre période que juillet/août car la beauté du site attire beaucoup de touristes.

A faire de préférence de bonne heure le matin ou après 19 h, quand les croisiéristes sont remontés à bord de leurs palaces flotants.
