This quiet little town, where life flows peacefully under coconut and mango trees, is located at the end of the Kilwa peninsula. This is where you'll find all the hotels for the few tourists passing through to explore the surrounding islands. Masoko means market in Kiswahili, but the Kilwa Masoko market is by no means extraordinary. You'll find all sorts of fish, fried or dried in the sun and salt, but very few octopus, prawns or crabs, as the fishermen sell a large part of their catch to the factory on the port, which processes it for export. To get to the beach, follow the "Pakaya Hotel" sign past the hospital. Masoko has a small port and an airfield.
