The village of Kendwa is a quiet little fishing hamlet bordered by some of the island's prettiest beaches. Up until now, the site had retained its natural character as it was relatively undeveloped, with a beach bordered by nature. Now, however, an unsightly building has sprung up in the village. What a shame! The central beach has also been nibbled away by ever-expanding hotels. Nevertheless, it remains incredibly beautiful. The village slopes gently down to the sea, offering magnificent views from above, with rows of coconut palms overlooking the white sand and azure water. As with Nungwi, you'll enjoy the beach, but the atmosphere in the evenings isn't as authentic - it's quieter. It's only the hotel restaurants and bars that create a fairly intimate atmosphere, except on the evenings of the full moon party one Saturday a month. This little paradise boasts - in addition to the luxury hotels where you'll find peace and quiet - a number of affordable restaurants, with nice bars offering a well-chosen soundtrack to the evening. In the late afternoon, dhow cruises are organized for a sunset toast in front of a light, just like in Nungwi. While beach boys are present (though less so than at Nungwi), they are kept at bay by the guards of the secluded private beaches, where coconut wood deckchairs invite you to take a siesta. The hotels are on several levels, from the beach to the coconut-tree planted hillside, offering lovely views from the balconies of the upper rooms, with an overhang not found in Nungwi.
