Sandanski (30 000 inhabitants) is known for its thermal waters, but also for its sunshine: it is the hottest city in Bulgaria, on average. It is located at 240 m of altitude, its climate is strongly influenced by the Mediterranean, which is favorable for the treatment of pulmonary diseases. This health resort has more than eighty thermal springs with temperatures ranging from 42 to 81°C! Sandanski is a lively and bustling little town, but it is essentially modern in appearance, if we exclude the remains of four episcopal basilicas and the Archaeological Museum, built on the foundations of the basilica of Bishop Yoan.
