On the road to Parangua and Ilha do Mel, the small town of Morretes is a stopover full of history. This small colonial city located at 62 km from Curitiba and founded in 1733 is accessible by train (on the Curitiba-Paranagua line) or by bus. Adjacent to the Nhundiaquara river, the city offers many hiking possibilities, towards the Pico do Marumby (1,576 m, a famous place for rock climbing), and through the Serra do Graciosa (Mata Atlântica, numerous animals, waterfalls). The little train stops in Morretes in low season. The Matriz Nossa Senhora do Porto and the Nhundiaquara nature reserve are some of the local attractions.
