Iporanga is a word of Tupi-Guarani origin which means beautiful river. And it is true that the place is enchanting. Iporanga is a stop for those who are looking for adventure in the middle of Mata Atlântica. It is far from the agitation of the Paulist megalopolis and its 20 million inhabitants. The village is in the heart of the Parque Estadual Turistico do Alto Ribeira, the eponymous river which gave its name to the place, which is famous for the great number of caves to discover. There are more than 300 of them. The environment is made up of waterfalls, natural pools and lush forests. The infrastructure on site is rather rustic and undeveloped.
