This superb building, dating from 1917, is São Miguel's "Opera House". It has been recently and beautifully renovated. Numerous grandiose performances take place here, and internationally renowned artists come to perform. Philharmonic concerts, circuses, balls and even exhibitions are all on the program. Inaugurated on March 31, 1951, the Teatro Micaelense was designed by renowned cinema and theater architect Raul Rodrigues de Lima. On the initiative of Francisco Luís Tavares, deputy director, and with the support of the society of the time, this great theater was built in an urban space expressly torn up to accommodate it.
