This park, created in 1956, covers 1,020 km² around two lakes: Lake Rotoiti (literally "the small lake") and Lake Rotoroa ("the big lake"), more isolated. Very mountainous, it offers summits rising to more than 2,200 m of altitude. The park offers many activities: fishing, boating, skiing, canyoning, and of course, hiking! Many circuits are possible including the one leading to the famous and splendid Angelus Hut. Be careful not to underestimate the weather conditions: the temperature is lower than in St Arnaud (village on the shores of Lake Rotoiti). Think of rain and cold clothes.
