Natchez - not to be confused with the city of Natchez in the neighboring state of Mississippi - is a small village in Natchitoches Parish. There are several plantations, mostly privately owned, but it is possible to visit the Oakland Plantation which is part of the Cane River Creole National Historical Park and Heritage Area. The Isle Breville area is home to the St. Augustine Church, which is the oldest church founded in the United States by Creoles. Nearby is the Badin-Roque House, a typical Creole house that belonged to the church and became a historic site in 1979.
