Travel Guide San Mauro Castelverde

From Gangi, you can go back to San Mauro Castelverde who is a little away from our itinerary (35 km). This village of 2 100 souls offers a very pleasant walk in its old streets, which would seem to be out of the Middle Ages. This would also be the case with its many churches, mostly built in the th and th centuries, if they had not been so modified over time. At least there is a complete panorama of religious construction, between the original elements and the additions made between the th and th centuries. Outside the churches (at least 5 per 2 500 inhabitants), one can cite the Palazzo de la Mairie, converted into a museum, and the ruins of the Byzantine fortress which dominated the city of the time of its distant glory.
