It appears that its name derives from a hamlet situated at the top of the mountain which dominates it, which bears the name "rocca degli Asinelli" (little donkeys rock). Located on a hillside of the Castelbuono valley, this small town developed during the Norman period. It is a pleasant place and a good base for hikes in.
