On the heights, in the north-east of the inhabited Tusa, lies the ruins of Halaesa (site open daily from 9 a. m. to 18 p. m. and every first Sunday of the month at the same time; closed on Monday; free entrance), former sicule colony of the Fifth century BC, founded by Arconide. Flourishing under the Roman Empire, it was destroyed by Arabs in the th century. From this city, however, there are pieces of ramparts, with towers to rectangular bases, part of the acropolis and a Greek temple, as well as the remains of a Roman colombarium.
