THEA
We're not quite sure why, or how, but in recent years, New Yorkers have become infatuated with pastries and viennoiseries, which they like to be exotic and unusual. Goodbye muffins and doughnuts, hello kataifi croissants, hazelnut-chocolate squiggles (we didn't know them either, but after tasting them, we dream about them every night), maritozzi (Italian brioche) with mango and labneh, and other kouign-amanns (resolutely exotic in the USA). Everything is as delicious and rich as it should be. After that, we're good at skipping a meal.
