All ferries to Langkawi arrive at Kuah pier, located in the southeast of the island. As Langkawi's main town, Kuah offers few tourist attractions. The hotels in this area are not the best choice if you want to enjoy the island's rugged natural beauty. However, it's worth mentioning that a few major hotel groups, such as the Westin or the Saint Regis, have established their establishments here. But their aim is to offer their clientele a lively destination rather than an unforgettable beach. Although the sea is present and the town's peaceful atmosphere is not unpleasant, Kuah is best known for being home to a large part of the island's Chinese population, which is reflected in the presence of several excellent restaurants. The town also boasts a night market held twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays. A stopover in town may be considered to satisfy a small hunger or to do some shopping. It's worth noting that Langkawi is a duty-free zone, where all consumer goods are tax-free. So remember, Kuah is a convenient stopover for arrivals and departures, and it's best to make your home in other parts of the island to discover its real gems.
