With fewer than 50,000 inhabitants, Kangar is the smallest capital of Malaysia's smallest state. A stroll along the shophouses and among the rare colonial relics gives a glimpse of deepest Malaysia, living at a very different pace from the big cities. The center is called Uptown Sena, home to the 1930s Clock Tower and the elegant colonial State Secretariat Building.The city can be reached by bus from Alor Setar (1 hour), Penang (3 hours), Kuala Lumpur (8 hours) or Malacca (10 hours).
