An hour from the coast and three hours from Guadalajara, Colima is the capital of one of Mexico's smallest and richest states. Founded in 1523 by Captain Sandoval on the orders of Cortés, this city still has beautiful colonial buildings and a few museums of interest. The city, dotted with palm trees and bathed in a humid and hot climate, is dominated by the two volcanoes that stand out in the background. The town of Colima is actually divided into two localities: Colima and Villa de Alvarez. It is also an excellent base for visiting the surrounding natural sites, all of which are located on the Volcanoes Route
