The lost paradise of Maruata... A fashionable hippie destination from the 70's to the early 90's, it was then famous for its small nudist cove. Nowadays, it has been abandoned due to its relative isolation (175 km from Lázaro Cardenas, some 3 hours drive) and the precarious security conditions of the whole area. It is a large indigenous community with a breathtaking maritime landscape. More than a beach, it is a collection of small coves and a larger bay where swimming is possible. Here, the sierra seems to plunge towards the ocean ad infinitum: cliffs, peaks and rocky promontories in light tones are swept by waters with turquoise reflections, giving the place a little touch of surrealism: the rock of the Finger of God (el Dedo de Dios) comes to remind us of the omnipotence of natural forces. Here, the fishermen can take you to discover the surrounding desert beaches and other places lost between land, sky and sea; the walks or horseback rides on the beach are memorable. This is surely the best place to stay on the coast: camping areas, rustic huts and small restaurants under palm roofs on the water's edge, and above all a beautiful Parador Turistico, built high up on the rock and run by a few families from the community. Outside of the national holidays, this place, which is gradually coming back to life, is more than conducive to the wandering of emotions and imagination..
