Population: 22,000. Altitude: 975 m. The town of Caranavi is located halfway between Coroico and Guanay, or Rurrenabaque. It is a large transit town, mainly inhabited by farmers from the surrounding area, and lives partly from its geographical location. The truckers stop here to eat and to spend the night. There are several hotels on the main road that will put you up for a small fee, and there are small restaurants serving basic food in the main square. There is not much tourist interest, but Caranavi only welcomes a few tourists and you can discover the Yungas off the beaten track.
