At an altitude of almost 5,300 m, the highest ski slope in the world was still there yesterday. Unfortunately, the Chacaltaya glacier has lost a large part of its surface, illustrating in situ the melting of glaciers. With a measured annual retreat of one meter per year, the disappearance of the Chacaltaya glacier was inevitable: since March 2009, it is done, the glacier has disappeared after reigning for 18,000 years on the Altiplano. It only took twenty years to wipe it off the face of the earth (it only started to melt in the mid-1980s)... Today, the station offers a breathtaking view of the La Paz basin.
