VIADUC
A structure with arches to allow the railroad to cross the Turdine river, with a view from the chapel.
At the western entrance to the town, railway enthusiasts won't want to miss the impressive ashlar viaduct. The viaduct is almost 400 m long (373 m to be exact) and 26 m high, and was built between 1866 and 1868 during construction of the Lyon-Roanne line. Its 20 arches enable the railroad to span not only the Turdine river, but also - with one arch wider than the others - the old Route Nationale 7 that runs through Tarare. View of the bridge from the Notre-Dame-de-Bel-air chapel.
