These Dauphinois by adoption brilliantly illustrate the intellectual life of their time. First in Dauphiné, where the intellectual ebullition of Grenoble carried their work, then in Paris where their careers culminated and finally on the shores of ancient Egypt. They worked together to lift the veil on this thousand-year-old civilization, silent for more than fifteen centuries. The first devoting his life to the understanding of the hieroglyphic system and the ancient Egyptians, the second as the unfailing support of his younger brother.

Housed in the mansion of the Champollion estate, the museum's collections make tangible this common passion, its quests and its trials and tribulations. Between reconstructed spaces and thematic rooms, discover a unique family collection of working documents, archives, furniture and personal objects testifying to the exceptional career of the two brothers. A remarkable collection enriched by deposits from regional and national museums, notably the Louvre. The abundance and diversity of the objects on display reflect the rediscovery of Egypt and the wonder that it aroused just two centuries ago.
