Several large towns in the Alps organise a "Retour des alpages" in the autumn, including Grenoble in a gourmet district.

They're coming down into town, converging on the Place de Metz! These are the cows coming down from the mountain pastures. It's an enduring tradition throughout the Alps, and particularly in Grenoble on the Rue de Strasbourg. this festive, gourmet event will be held for the 12th time in 2022. Producers of local produce are also on hand for a festival dedicated to local gastronomy, hosted by top chefs - don't miss the famous "Combat des Chefs" organized beforehand - and blue-white-and-red M.O.F.s, led by cheesemaker Bernard Mure-Ravaud.
