LA MIRANDE * * * * *
Charming and romantic hotel with lush garden in Avignon.
Delivered by Cardinal de Pellegrue in the 14th century, then Maison de Vervins in the 17th century, Hôtel Pamard in the 18th, this beautiful residence became La Mirande in 1990, a charming, romantic and refined hotel. The Stein family has worked hard to bring this private home back to life, where time seems to have stood still. The living rooms open onto a charming, lush garden. The rooms are inspired by the spirit of the Age of Enlightenment, decorated with care, right down to the wall hangings, re-editions of antique prints. Everything is perfect, right down to Florent Pietravalle's Michelin-starred table.

The room was a major letdown. Not only did the desk lamp run dangerously hot without actually turning on, but attempting to unplug it revealed exposed wires haphazardly wrapped with electrical tape. Neither the TV nor the phone worked, and when we reported these issues to the front desk, we were met with an unhelpful attitude and no solutions. To make things worse, housekeeping removed the faulty light fixture and phone but didn’t bother replacing them. After dinner, when the TV still refused to function, we had to walk back to the front desk to have someone come and unplug it just to turn it off, an inconvenience that really shouldn't happen at a hotel of this caliber.
Trying to get a drink before dinner was equally frustrating. The bar seemed understaffed, much like our last visit, and we were told it would be a 30-minute wait due to a group tour ahead of us. This is simply unacceptable, especially when paying premium prices.
Upon checkout, we requested to speak with the manager regarding our unpleasant experience, but instead of addressing our concerns, we were simply handed a business card and told to call next time. While the property still retains its magical charm, it sadly felt a bit dusty and neglected this time around.
At these prices, one would expect a room that functions properly and a staff that's attentive to the needs of its guests. Unfortunately, this visit to La Mirande Hotel did not rise to those expectations. Here's hoping they address these issues promptly so future guests can enjoy the experience we once did.
