QUARTIER DU HEDAS
Vibrant district in the lower town, one of Pau's liveliest neighborhoods, with numerous bars and restaurants
Le Hédas, formerly known as Quartier de la Fontaine, is one of Pau's historic districts. Located in the lower town, it was once the district of artisans, cabarets and inns. The district stretches for 1.3 km, from the Château de Pau to the Place d'Espagne, along the ravine of the former Hédas stream, now underground, which gave the district its name. Its pebbled facades, taken from the old creek bed, reflect its historic character. Today, the Hédas is one of Pau's liveliest districts, with numerous bars, restaurants and a vibrant atmosphere. The Place Récaborde is the focal point for festivals.
