The majestic ramparts of Navarrenx stand proudly, immutable witnesses of the history and the greatness of this fortified city. These secular ramparts encircle the city. It is to the kings of Navarre that we owe the idea of the construction of these thick walls, true bastioned enclosure almost intact today and it is to the Italian architect Fabricio Siciliano, that the realization of this 1st bastioned place in France on the Italian model, then revolutionary. It was an earthen shoulder flanked by bastioned walls with orillons marking a decisive evolution in military architecture, ramparts that were quickly tested during the Wars of Religion.

Ville fortifiée avec des remparts toujours en excellents état. On peut visiter les souterrains mais surtout n'oubliez pas votre lampe torche. Ne passez pas à côté de la poudrerie et de l'arsenal, ils sont splendides. Site incontournable à visiter si vous passez dans la région.
