Ospitalea, a former 17th-century commandery founded by the Order of Malta, has been listed as a Historic Monument and masterfully restored. It is owned by the département and welcomes you to the village of Irissarry. The center tells the story of this former farmhouse of extraordinary proportions, and reveals the heritage and history of the Basque Country through its temporary exhibitions, events, conferences, workshops and escape game. Impossible to miss in the center of the small village of Irissarry, in the Basque Country, come and discover Ospitalea, this monumental example of traditional Bas-Navarra farmhouses, a former commandery founded by the Knights Hospitallers of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem (now the Order of Malta), now transformed into a Heritage Education Center.
Property of the Department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, the Ospitalea Heritage Education Center accompanies you in the discovery of local heritage through its animations and temporary exhibitions.
The visit of the building will allow you to approach the history of Ospitalea, to appreciate its rehabilitation and the architectural program which guided it.
In the vast exhibition room, you will marvel at the exceptional dimension that the impressive frame gives to the exhibitions.
Visits, workshops, games, shows, stories, heritage outings ... are scheduled to help you discover the facets of Basque heritage: nature, culture, buildings, language, practices and traditional skills.
Ospitalea is open to the general public from March to November from Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 12:30pm and from 1:30pm to 5:30pm. Free visit.

Individual: free self-guided tour of the Commandery and temporary exhibitions.
3 € *: guided tour of the Commandery or temporary exhibition.
5 € *: half-day heritage walk.
Free for children under 8 years old.
