A maritime heritage retracing the history and economy of the fishing port, where the fish auction and fish trade are still important
Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Ciboure are inseparable from the economic activity of the fishing port and its historical and maritime heritage. It was in the Middle Ages, with whaling, that the maritime economy developed in the Bay of Biscay. In the 16th century, sailors from Luzia and Cibourne set off for Newfoundland in search of cod shoals. After the First World War, the first canneries were set up to process anchovies and sardines. The fish auction and the fish trade are still important today.
