RANDONNÉE ET REFUGE DU LAC D’ARLET
A simple refuge in the commune of Borce allowing long-distance hikers to take a comfortable break or a stopover.
The Lac d'Arlet hike takes you to an altitude of 1,986 metres (including 675 metres of altitude difference) through the forest before reaching the large pond. In summer, the refuge is guarded (the only one in the Aspe valley) and maintained by the Pyrenees National Park. Surrounded by the peaks of Aillary (2,215 metres), Arlet (2,207 metres) and Gadebaille (2,258 metres) and the grassy ridges of Banasse Mountain, the site is sublime. You can access it from Lhers or the hamlet of Aubise, or even through the Belonce valley in the commune of Borce. This simple and unadorned refuge, but practical and functional, offers a comfortable break. It can accommodate 44 people in the summer and about ten in the winter (unguarded). You will surely use it during a walk for the little walkers or a stopover for the big hikers who walk the high Pyrenean road (HRP).
